Penny has come back to Homestretch after being in a home for two years. She has an auto-immune condition that causes her nose to turn pink which is exacerbated by hot weather and excess sun exposure. Unfortunately, her former home was very sunny and hot in the summer.So, Penny is looking for a location that is a bit cooler in the summer.... maybe by the beach? UPDATE: biopsies confirm discoid lupus. She has started on supplements to boost her immune system, a raw diet andsunscreen. In addition to a home by the beach, she’s looking for a family who will help keep up the new health regimen.

Aztec is a smaller boy who came to Homestretch from Guam. He’s extremely intelligent and extremely opinionated. He gets along fine with the other greyhounds in his foster home, but are not sure how he would deal with another larger dog of a different breed. We do know he doesn’t get along with small dogs or cats. Aztec can jump a 6’ fence, if he feels it’s the thing to do. Otherwise, he’s quite lazy and is happy to lay outside soaking up the sun. He’s affectionate with people, but will need his person to be a strong leader. Aztec does not suffer fools! Just ask him. He is definitely not the dog for everyone, but will be a fabulous, witty companion for the right, dog knowledgeable person.

Ollie is a very quiet big boy with lots of good will. He raced at nearly 100 pounds, but had some minor medical difficulties after retirement and is now on his way to good health. He is very sweet and loving and could an extra dose of confidence, particularly when going in and out of doors. This big guy just wants to be someone's forever buddy.

Beautiful Stranger is a little on the large size, although not as big as Ollie. He is very energetic and loves to run and play. He has a narrow muzzle sore on his nose that is slowly healing. Stranger really likes people and going on walks and rides in the car and food and everything else that good dogs want.

Swifty is a very beautiful large girl. She really dislikes being in a crate. She wants to be in the house and on the grass. Swifty is very alert and learns quickly. She really wants to please. When she she sees a leash she is ready for the walk, always gentle and doesn't pull even though she is weighs as much as some of the boys.

Katie is a beautiful little girl. She is just a little larger than the greyhound whippet mixes currently at Homestretch. Katie is fairly shy and sometimes afraid of men. She gains confidence when around other greyhounds and is really a warm friendly little girl who want her own bed.

Jetta is a fairly active and sometimes vocal beauty. She loves to be outside so she can roam around exploring the bushes and flowers that are new to her. She likes walks and an occasional run, but is not crazy and wild. She is learning to be obedient and with only a modest amount of training will be a superior dog. She is great in the house, no accidents, no counter surfing and no chewing.

Lost in Goleta area January 18. UPDATE 9/7/09: Mika was spotted by Santa Barbara Sheriff's deputy Sunday (9/6/09) approx. 2:00 AM at Ocean Meadows Golf Course in Goleta. Nelly is a very small greyhound/whippet mix that was retrieved from the Antelope Valley in January. She was living outside and has a nice coat of fur which may go away with warmer weather. Nelly needs a lot of tender love as she is easily freightened, especially by men. She will be a wonderful companion if you have patience and alow her to adjust to changes slowly. When she gets her courage up, she will grab a toy and take it to her bed. This is a large task for her. and she gets praise all the time.

Gary is a beautiful blond brindle boy. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know it yet (well he might know he’s brindle, but he doesn’t know he’s beautiful). He’s very shy of people and is going to need lots of time and understanding before he gets comfortable in this, or any other, world. He is making slow, but consistent progress, which is very rewarding to witness. He’s smart and inquisitive and wants very much to bond, especially when he sees the other pups getting love.

A new very small non-racing arrival from the Antelope Valley. Nelson is small enough to be a lap dog. From this vantage point he loves to watch movies and television. He is very people oriented and is appreciative of any attention he gets. A very good boy that wants to make you happy. Nelson is a good learner and might be an excellent agility candidate.
