Aztec is a smaller boy who came to Homestretch from Guam. He’s extremely intelligent and extremely opinionated. He gets along fine with the other greyhounds in his foster home, but are not sure how he would deal with another larger dog of a different breed. We do know he doesn’t get along with small dogs or cats. Aztec can jump a 6’ fence, if he feels it’s the thing to do. Otherwise, he’s quite lazy and is happy to lay outside soaking up the sun. He’s affectionate with people, but will need his person to be a strong leader. Aztec does not suffer fools! Just ask him. He is definitely not the dog for everyone, but will be a fabulous, witty companion for the right, dog knowledgeable person.

Annie is a very quiet and sweet eight year old female ex-racing greyhound from the U.S. Trust Territory of Guam. Annie was one of 200+ greyhounds that were given away by the Guam Greyhound Park when it closed in November of 2008. She was in a home for about a year, but found abandoned and starving in March of this year. She was in a foster home prior flying across the Pacific to Homestretch on April 12th. UPDATE 8/28/10:  After initial concerns about her kidneys, it was discovered Annie’s big problem was a raging case of hookworms! She is currently being treated and hopes to be available for adoption in the very near future. Annie gets along with other large dogs, but is not good with cats or small dogs. Medical Hold

Grady has come back to Homestretch thru no fault of his own. He’s a mellow fellow with the saddest expression. He can be a bit reserved around people he doesn’t know, but he’s really a kind, loving, gentle soul who gets along with everyone. Grady has lived in a home with a female greyhound and cats. He would prefer a home with other greyhounds, so he can stay in his comfort zone. Grady likes his walks slow and leisurely. Mostly he likes to hang out with his peeps and take life slowly. Sounds good!

Swifty was living with Grady until their family’s circumstances changed. As with Grady, she too finds herself back with Homestretch thru no fault of her own. Swifty is a fun loving, active girl with a helicopter tail. However, she calms down quickly and is a joy around the house. She prefers her walks fast and enthralling. However, she’s gentle enough to live with cats.

Luna was recently relinquished to Homestretch as her owner’s life/work situation had changed. Luna is reportedly a greyhound/deerhound mix. She is on the large side for a female greyhound and is active and happy. She is very sweet! She gets along with the other dogs beautifully and is great around the house. Just think of Luna as a fluffy, short-nosed greyhound. She will make someone a great companion, tho she will need a home where she isn’t left alone for long periods of time. A canine companion would be preferable, too. Luna will also need (at least) a 6’ fence.

Lexus is a "Guam" greyhound. She was one of the first dogs rescued after the track closing and dog giveway on Guam in November of 2008. She was adopted by a family there, but returned for domestic reasons to the rescue, Guam Animals In Need, in January of this year. After spending several months in a foster home, Lexus came to the U.S. in early April. Lexus is very beautiful and has loads of affection and personality. She loves to go places and on walks. She’s crate and house trained and also loves squeaky toys, a very frisky and playful girl.

Charmer is aptly named. He’s a handsome, happy, friendly, bouncy boy. He’s quite full of himself, too. He gets along with the other greys, but can be a little resource guardy. So, he’ll need to be watched if he’s going to live with other dogs. Charmer is active, but if you go to pet him or hold him, he gets very stil and will stand with his head in your arms forever (or at least till dinnertime). This boy takes his lovin’ very seriously!

Lost in Goleta area January 18. UPDATE 9/7/09: Mika was spotted by Santa Barbara Sheriff's deputy Sunday (9/6/09) approx. 2:00 AM at Ocean Meadows Golf Course in Goleta. If you see her, please do not try to catch her, but observe any details: time of day, which direction she is headed, etc. Then, call 805-797-7706. Please keep her in your thoughts.

Cal’s just an all around nice guy. He’s good with the other greyhounds in his foster home and listens really well. He really wants to be someone’s pal. Actually, he wants to be everyone’s pal and he’s got the winning personality to do so!  Being a typical, three year old boy, he’s energetic and playful. Cal loves his walks, but knows how to chill out, too, if that’s what everyone’s in the mood for.

Gary is a beautiful blond brindle boy. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know it yet (well he might know he’s brindle, but he doesn’t know he’s beautiful). He’s very shy of people and is going to need lots of time and understanding before he gets comfortable in this, or any other, world. He is making slow, but consistent progress, which is very rewarding to witness. He’s smart and inquisitive and wants very much to bond, especially when he sees the other pups getting love. UPDATE 8/28/09:  Gary has vastly improved his outlook over the last couple of months. He has moved into a foster home where he is walked several times a day. He is actually enjoying it and, while he doesn’t initiate contact with everyone he meets, he does accept attention and has even been caught soliciting pets from certain people.

A new very small non-racing arrival from the Antelope Valley, Nelson is small enough to be a lap dog. (Well, not really, but there is no telling him otherwise!) From this vantage point he loves to watch movies and television. Nelson is convinced he is all greyhound, as he much prefers the company of our beloved couch potatoes to other breeds. Don’t we all!?! He is a little more energetic than most greys and is somewhat bouncy. He prances around as if he’s in his own little parade. Could there be some whippet in that squirmy little body? Sure seems like it.

Izzy is a playful, sweet, quiet, doe-eyed little darling. She gets along fabulously with the other greys in her foster home and has tested out okay with the little ones and kitties, too. However, she’s very spunky and lively when she gets excited. She also has the cutest, freckly little nose. Just a doll!
